Specific Responsibilities

The country manager represents Apache in Suriname and the position will be based in Suriname with travel as needed. He/she works with other Apache executives and leaders based locally and, in the headquarters, to maximize value for our shareholders and help identify in country risks to ensure success of Apache’s businesses in these locations.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • In coordination with Senior Management negotiate terms and conditions which offer improved economic return. Keeps informed of regional competitive E&P activities, government laws and regulations, and political developments;
  • This position will collaborate with the Suriname Asset Team and all function leads to effectuate the delivery of Apache’s plan for Suriname;
  • Support services such as HR, legal, finance, tax, accounting, marketing and supply chain management are coordinated locally by the country manager with assistance from headquarters functional leads;
  • Builds, develops and maintains strong business relationships with JV partners, National Oil Company (“Staatsolie”), Suriname government officials and regulators, local stakeholders as well as other operators in the country;
  • Vote on behalf of Apache & represent the company in board meetings, General Assemblies, & other official meetings in country;
  • Work with asset & functional leaders to drive Apache initiatives and influence partners & Suriname government as directed;
  • Provide insights & in-country intelligence to asset, functions, & executive teams in Houston to help formulate company strategy;
  • Partner with Government Affairs headquarters team in developing and implementing strategy and policy initiatives with the Suriname government;
  • Participate in interviews, panels, and country manager related speeches/presentations in Suriname;
  • Sign & approve legal documents when necessary as legal representative of Apache in country;
  • Ensure all business activities are conducted in accordance with Apache’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics with particular focus on compliance with U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act;Work closely with the crisis management team in Suriname with possible transition into a role of “assisting as appropriate in emergency response situation” in the future;
  • Support as directed various administrative activities, internal policies, corporate real estate function for the rep office in Suriname;
  • Partner with PR/Communication teams in Houston to manage external & internal communications, as well as CSR initiatives; and
  • Act as focal point for international government organizations & agencies’ offices in Suriname, such as: U.S. Embassy, other embassies, USAID, USTDA, IFC, IMF, World Bank, EBRD, etc.
