Position Description & Duties:

The Automation Controls Specialist, for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Automation and Measurement team at the company’s Pecos, office reporting to the Automation and Measurement Supervisor. 
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, operation, and standardization of all Automation Equipment.
  • Applies a high-level understanding of plant processing to identify enhancement opportunities and Identify potential issues before they arise.
  • Assists and/or leads Automation Department with the design of new systems and performs installation of new field/plant automation equipment.
  • Direct contractor activities to make certain Apache Corporation is receiving the most efficient use of materials and labor. 
  • Applies programming skills to optimize and enhance existing processes.
  • Responsible for mentoring and training less experienced personnel with troubleshooting and making repairs.
  • Identify Changes that require Management of Change approvals under the PSM guidelines.
  • Be available on-call for rotational after-hours automation related issue resolution.

Preferred & Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associates Degree or higher in an applicable field of study preferred.
  • 5 or more years related experience with emphasis on installation and troubleshooting of automation/electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of hazardous locations.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Codes, ISA standards, IEEE
  • Familiarity with AGA, API, and GPA standards 
  • Advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills 
  • Be proficient in utilization of technology, Modbus, DNP3 ABCIP and other industrial networking protocols. 
  • Proficient with SCADA troubleshooting 
  • Knowledge and experience using multiple IEC-61131-3 languages.
  • Possesses thorough understanding of variable frequency drive (VFD) control design including all aspects of programming, troubleshooting, and tuning
  • Ability to interpret & update P&ID's, electrical drawings, and diagrams
  • Good understanding of plant and/or gathering system processes
  • Ability to provide accurate documentation and follow through on records
