Position Description:

The US Onshore Inventory Lead will be responsible for leading a team to develop and implement strategies to effectively manage Apache’s US Onshore inventory. To achieve this, this individual will interact with Apache’s operating assets and relevant stakeholders to ensure buy-in and compliance. As well as identifying opportunities for improvement, this individual will have the autonomy to evaluate and adjust inventory management strategy to make the necessary changes needed to drive higher performance for the organization. This person must have experience in managing warehouse/yard operations and knowledgeable about all relevant health, safety, and environmental requirements.  This individual should also have analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure inventory levels are optimized to ongoing operations. This position will be located in the Midland, Texas area with travel requirements to all Apache yards.

Position Duties:

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S):
    1. Ensure Apache US Onshore Inventory strategy and operations aligns with Apache EH&S policy and standards and all relevant laws and regulations.
    1. Develop and implement inventory management strategy to control and manage all Apache US Onshore Inventory at Apache US Onshore approved storage locations, including specialist third party locations;
    2. Manage all Apache US Onshore inventory in SAP including Issues/Returns & Stock Transfers to/from Apache yards & third-party storage locations;
    3. Assist in developing and maintaining systems, procedures, and processes to meet Operations and Projects material requirements while optimizing stock levels;
    4. Lead of all related US Onshore inventory inquiries;
    5. Research and implement technology to assist Apache’s tracking of inventory;
    6. Explore potential to expand current tracking of inventory;
    7. Work with Accounting on ensuring inventory is of proper market value; and
    8. Propose implementation of continuous improvement methodology at yards.
    1. Manage inventory yard personnel – Lead and support all Apache yards in daily functions including but not limited to goods receipt, picking & dispatch, stock count, material movements in and out, and inventory queries;
    2. Arrange and implement quarterly stock counts of third-party vendors, creating stock count report and discrepancy form, where applicable;
    3. Control and manage all Apache US Onshore inventory at Apache approved storage locations, including specialist third party locations;
    4. Work with appropriate technical departments to ensure storage arrangements are appropriate for the type of inventory being stored.
    1. Work with Procurement, Operations, and Asset teams to forecast future needs and effects on inventory;
    2. Ensure Apache has proper stock of inventory to avoid delays/shortages including but not limited to analyzing needs for max/min for certain items;
    3. Create, develop, and analyze inventory metrics;
    4. Assists with well reconciliations to ensure accurate stock control and accounting practice; and
    5. Material master catalogue creation, maintenance, & verification.
    1. Focal point of all US Onshore disposals, including the sale of surplus inventory items; and
    2. Ongoing inventory rationalization & optimization of equipment to identify opportunity for use/disposal/deployment of surplus and obsolete stock.

Preferred & Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or relevant Business / Technical discipline.


  • 5-7 years of inventory/warehouse management or general Supply Chain experience;
  • In-depth knowledge of inventory management procedures & practices;
  • Managed multiple warehouses/yards;
  • Upstream Oil & Gas experience with specific planning and supply chain activities related to drilling, completion, or production is preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge of drilling, completions, and production equipment & assemblies is preferred;
  • Good knowledge of standard EH&S protocol of yard operations;
  • Proficiency with Excel;
  • SAP knowledge and previous SAP experience is preferred;
  • Experience with SAP Ariba related to sourcing and contracts is preferred.
