Specific Responsibilities
This entry-level Production Engineer I role provides technical support to Apache’s Production Operations group in Midland with a focus on artificial lift. The engineer will gain practical experience across plunger-assisted gas lift (PAGL), gas lift, electrical submersible pumps (ESP), and rod pump systems, with significant field exposure at well sites. The position will also support well servicing, workovers, and facility operations as part of early-career development.
- Support artificial lift selection, installation, and optimization (PAGL, gas lift, ESP, and rod pump)
- Spend a significant portion of time at the wellhead, working alongside field personnel and vendors.
- Assist in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of artificial lift failures.
- Provide support in workover and well intervention planning, including artificial lift conversions.
- Gain exposure to production facility operations, workover rigs, and servicing practices.
- Collaborate with Reservoir, Facilities, Workover Engineering, and Operations teams to deliver safe and reliable production.
- Work closely with vendors to optimize artificial lift designs, support service quality initiatives, and ensure best practices are implemented in field operations.
- Assist in basic economic assessments and cost management for production operations.
- Support cost center and lease-level income reviews for assigned Apache assets, ensuring wells and leases remain economically viable.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining cost and production data for periodic asset performance reviews, providing input to P&L management.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline).
Internship or prior exposure to oil and gas production operations preferred. - 0–1 years of relevant industry experience.
- Preference for recent graduates or early-career engineers with strong academic credentials.
- Self-motivated, organized, and disciplined in time management.
- Positive attitude with a strong desire to learn, adapt quickly, and contribute meaningfully.
- Not afraid to ask questions and seek clarification to accelerate growth and impact.
- Foundational engineering knowledge with interest in artificial lift and production optimization.
- Strong commitment to safety and willingness to spend extended time in field operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; exposure to engineering software (Wellview, OFM, Rodstar, Prosper, Wellflo, Foresite) preferred.
- Effective problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
