Specific Responsibilities
The Automation Technician II is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting automated systems and equipment. They work closely with engineers and other technicians to ensure the efficient operation of automated machinery, identify and resolve technical issues, and implement improvements to enhance productivity and safety. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a thorough understanding of automation technologies.
- Responsible for the installation, maintenance, operation and standardization of all RTU(s) and PLC(s).
- Install, inspect, test, adjust, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and remove advanced Automation, Instrumentation, and Electrical equipment.
- Interpret and apply electrical and electronic schematics pertaining to EFM(s), RTU(s), and PLC(s).
- Program, edit, configure, and build programs and equipment for PLCs and displays.
- Maintenance of automation-related computer hardware and software.
- Review and evaluate automation-related invoices. Code invoices according to corporate policy.
- Be aware of how production facilities operate. Learn to recognize areas where alarms and data gathering are needed on each facility.
- Ensure that data is current on host systems with current field wiring and monitoring.
- Recognize problem areas and develop recommendations before major problems occur.
- Direct contractor activities to make certain Apache Corporation is receiving the most efficient use of materials and labor.
- Become familiar with State Environmental Compliance Regulations and monitor job sites for compliance regarding established preventive and corrective programs.
- Generate new ideas and proposals. Be aware of what is going on in your area of responsibility.
- Recognize problem areas and develop recommendations before major problems occur.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. One or more college level I&E courses preferred.
- 3+ years related experience with emphasis on installation and troubleshooting of automation/electrical equipment.
- Basic computer skills of MS Office, operating systems, company software
- Knowledge of hazardous locations.
- Knowledge of proper grounding methods.
- Working knowledge of the National Electric Codes, ISA standards, IEEE
- Familiarity with AGA, API, and GPA standards
- Adequate analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Must be able to frequently, enter confined spaces, climb to and work from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, stairwells, walkways, etc.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist
- Ability to efficiently plan, construct, and draft as built prints for small metering equipment installations
