Specific Responsibilities
The Internal Audit Director will co-lead the JV’s Internal Audit team with the EGPC Audit Director counterpart. The position, reports to Apache’s Vice President, Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance. The position is primarily tasked with establishing, leading and managing a value-added internal audit function that complies with IIA Standards, focusing on continually improving the efficiency and effectiveness of JV operations.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
- Effectively working with the EGPC Internal Audit Manager counterpart in leading and managing the JV Audit and Compliance functions; Provide periodic reporting on the status and operations of the IA function to the JV Audit Committee;
- Championing and establishing an efficient and effective audit function;
- Developing and managing a risk-based audit universe, audit plans and audit program to deliver assurance, process/control improvement and optimization results to the organization;
- Managing the planning and execution of operational audits, IT audits, special projects and other engagements as needed; Developing audit risks, scopes, objectives, work programs and testing procedures as needed;
- Reviewing / preparing audit workpapers and draft reports;
- Completing, or supervising completion of, assigned audits, advisory engagements or special projects; Documenting business and system processes as needed, identifying relevant risks and controls;
- Effectively and efficiently executing process design reviews and control testing procedures to fulfill audit objectives;
- Supervising and reviewing the work product of audit team members, ensuring quality work is performed and properly documented to support audit conclusions;
- Identifying audit findings and developing sound corrective recommendations;
- Leading or attending audit closing meetings to communicate audit work, findings and recommendations to management. Assist with action plan development;
- Drafting well-written reports at the conclusion of audits covering audit scopes, procedures employed, findings and recommendations; Leading and assisting with departmental projects related to risk identification, audit planning, scheduling, operations, KPIs and continuous improvement;
- Implementing a program to follow-up and report on the status of audit issues; Coaching and developing audit staff; and
- Liaising with external auditors as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting;
- CPA, CIA and/or CISA highly desirable; Fluency in Arabic and English;
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in public accounting and/or internal audit; Prior experience leading and managing internal audit teams;
- Excellent Communication Skills (written and verbal);
- Strong teamwork orientation, with the ability to work independently as needed;
- Experience with operational / process auditing and identifying control gaps and process improvement opportunities; Proven strong aptitude for problem solving and root cause analysis; and
- Knowledge and experience with SAP preferred.
