Specific Responsibilities

The Drilling Superintendent for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Drilling & Completions family at the company’s Midland, TX office reporting to the Manager Drilling Engineering. The focus of this position will be to work as a drilling superintendent for US land drilling operations, based in Houston, TX. Main areas to cover are Austin Chalk and Delaware basin.  The position is responsible for supporting drilling operations with technical advice, improve efficiency and consistency across different rigs and assets with safety as the number one priority. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•    Exhibit strong EHS leadership and taking responsibility for creating a EHS environment where zero incidents and accidents are achieved.
•    Manage Well Site Leaders, drilling field personnel and service companies during drilling operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and consistent drilling program
•    Participate in morning calls, discuss future operations with field operations and office and become liaison between both.
•    Become familiar with Apache’s Standard Operating Procedures and Recommend Practices, continually evaluate, optimize and streamline procedures with the intent to become safer and more efficient through continuous improvement.
•    Encourage teamwork, promote a culture were everybody feels comfortable asking questions and speaking up. Best answers win no matter who they come from.
•    Provide technical support during drilling operations, be willing to relieve WSL during unforeseen events
•    Lead and participate in safety meetings, audit safety processes and manage Apache’s safety program together with drilling EHS. 
•    Provide technical support for drilling rig selection and tender processes.
•    Participate in vendor audits, evaluate, and document findings.
•    Monitor and evaluate non-production and flat times proposing action items to increase efficiency. 

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

EDUCATION:     
•    B.S. Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:    

•    15-20 years’ experience in drilling operations, with at least 10 years in field leadership positions on land rigs
•    Experience in the Permian basin and Austin Chalk 
•    Experience with Managed Pressure Drilling and Well control operations
•    Capable of understanding modern super spec rig technology operation and limitations (TDS, walking/ skidding packages, Automatic drillers, hydraulic catwalks, etc.)
•    Experience improving on-bottom drilling performance by optimizing parameters and avoiding drilling disfunction by using Mechanical Specific Energy and downhole vibration data.

•    Periodic extended stays at the rig site may be required
