Specific Responsibilities

The Strategic Sourcing Lead for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Global Supply Chain team at the company’s Houston office reporting to the Strategic Sourcing Manager.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Follow the Apache strategic sourcing process and produce high-quality deliverables in support of the Strategic Sourcing Manager, Key Stakeholders and Category Managers
  • Create robust supply market analyses and detailed should cost models to uncover cost reduction opportunities and support execution of strategic sourcing events
  • Keep abreast of leading sourcing practices and tools within the broader field of Supply Chain Management and apply as part of Apache sourcing events
  • In consultation with Category Managers, Strategic Sourcing Manager and key Stakeholders, identify and implement TCO reduction opportunities for the goods and services being evaluated. Optimize the total cost of the product or service by leveraging both US and international markets, forming key supplier alliances, consolidating supplier base, and exploring potential efficiencies involved in the supply chain
  • Manage the competitive bidding process as part of strategic sourcing events, including supplier communications
  • Construct comprehensive bid evaluation models incorporating pre-determined criteria and weightings, discounted cash flow analysis and input from Key Stakeholders
  • Develop compelling presentations (project updates, strategy recommendations, sourcing recommendations, etc.) for review with Supply Chain Management and Key Stakeholder groups
  • Develop negotiation strategies by identifying and quantifying gives, takes and best alternatives
  • Lead negotiations with Suppliers to optimize the Total Cost of the product or service by leveraging product or service lines, forming key stakeholder relationships, and exploring untapped efficiencies
  • Interact with client business units to ensure understanding and ownership is achieved on all commercial and project-based sourcing initiatives
  • Coordinate the preparation and execution of commercial agreements in a manner that ensures proper definition of the business relationship allocating / mitigating risk between Company and the supplier. Ensure compliance with related Company policies and procedures
  • Interact with internal business units to ensure understanding and ownership is achieved on all initiatives. Maintain valuable internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Understand and drive adoption of Purchase-to-Pay processes and systems

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or relevant Business/ Technical discipline
  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or relevant Technical discipline is preferred
  • 5-10 years of strategic sourcing, category management or general Supply Chain experience within diverse industries/ markets
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic sourcing processes, procedures & practices
  • Executed contract I commercial negotiations
  • Upstream Oil & Gas experience with specific planning and supply chain activities related to drilling, completion or production is preferred
  • Experience applying complex sourcing techniques, including supply market analysis, TCO principles, and strategy development
  • Working knowledge of evaluation modeling experience, including cost benefit and present value analysis
  • In-depth Excel knowledge and experience
