Specific Responsibilities

The Seismic Data Tech for Apache Corporation will be a member of the Exploration Pillar at the company’s Houston, TX office reporting to the Geoscience Data Management Function Lead and assigned to the Geophysics team of the Applied Geoscience Technology group. 

 
This role will be primarily responsible for the following: 

 

Loading and management of land and marine seismic data in various applications (Exploration Archives, Petrel, Kingdom, DUG, etc.); 

Data management: source, format, OCR, load, QC, catalogue, transmittal, and physical and digital storage; 

Create/Implement/Maintain best practices for seismic cataloguing and archiving; create 3D surveys and 2D lines in Exploration archives; manage entitlement documents; 

Receive, QC, and load/distribute all incoming seismic data; 

Ensure geoscience teams are accessing the most current and accurate data; 

Provide JV (Joint Venture) partners all required seismic related data; 

Manage 3rd party requests for potential seismic data licensing; 

Interface with Corporate IT to manage seismic related data on the network including regular forecasting of required storage based on anticipated incoming data; and 

Interface with IT Applications group for troubleshooting, software implementation, and software development. 

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Geophysics or 10 years relevant experience working with large volumes of seismic and support data  

Experienced user of Exploration Archives 

Advanced knowledge of geoscience data loading and management in both 2D and 3D environments 

Subject matter expert loading and validating 2D and 3D land and marine seismic data including pre-stack, post stack, vintage seismic data, micro seismic, and various other seismic data 

Working knowledge of geodetics and units of measure used with seismic surveys. 

Working knowledge of seismic datums and replacement velocities and how they apply to seismic data. 

Ability to sort through and define key components of SEG-Y headers for loading and identifying seismic data. 

Excellent communication skills – presentation experience to management and JV partners; effectively communicates work procedures and standards to relevant internal and external personnel 

Ability to work and lead in a fast-paced environment within an integrated multi-disciplinary team 

Capable of directing the work of others 

Excellent project management skills; mature and professional attitude 

 

Experience with the below software applications is preferred:  

 

Petrel, Studio, Kingdom  

Paleoscan, DUG, Hampson Russell, Landmark/SeisWorks  

UNIX/Linux knowledge a plus  

Working knowledge of ArcPro/ArcMap 

Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams
