Specific Responsibilities

 

The Marketing Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the Commercial and Marketing teams by coordinating the scheduling and nomination of crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs), performing market and pricing analysis, managing transaction economics, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This position serves as a key liaison between Commercial, Accounting, Credit, Audit, Operations, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate the efficient movement, valuation, and settlement of hydrocarbon products.  The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of oil and gas marketing, transportation logistics, pricing mechanisms, and financial analysis.

 

Commercial & Marketing Support

 

  • Support the Midstream and Liquids Marketing team in the execution of crude oil and NGL purchase, sale, and transportation agreements. 
  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, and industry developments to provide actionable insights and recommendations. 
  • Assist with evaluating commercial opportunities, contract economics, and market optimization strategies. 
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and analyses for commercial decision-making. 

 

Scheduling & Nominations

 

  • Coordinate and execute daily, monthly, and intramonth scheduling and nomination activities for crude oil and NGL movements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate nominations with pipelines, terminals, fractionators, processors, and third-party counterparties.
  • Monitor volumes, inventory positions, transportation constraints, and operational issues affecting product movement.
  • Resolve scheduling discrepancies and communicate changes with internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Pricing & Market Analysis

 

  • Analyze commodity price movements, differentials, transportation costs, and market fundamentals impacting crude oil and NGL values. 
  • Maintain pricing models and support monthly pricing and settlement processes. 
  • Track market indices, benchmark pricing, and regional supply and demand trends. 
  • Identify variances between forecasted and actual results and provide supporting analysis. 

 

Profit & Loss Analysis

 

  • Prepare and analyze daily, monthly, and annual profit and loss (P&L) reports.
  • Investigate and explain volume, pricing, transportation, and margin variances.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve margins and optimize commercial performance. 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

 

  • Work closely with Accounting to ensure accurate revenue recognition, settlements, and month-end close activities. 
  • Collaborate with Credit to monitor customer and counterparty exposure and support credit-related decisions. 
  • Partner with Internal and External Audit teams by providing supporting documentation, analyses, and transaction details. 
  • Coordinate with Operations, Measurement, Land, and Supply Chain teams to ensure accurate transaction execution and reporting.
  • Assist with compliance and internal control initiatives related to marketing and commercial activities. 

 

Reporting & Data Management

 

  • Maintain commercial databases, transaction records, and reporting systems.
  • Ensure data integrity across scheduling, accounting, and commercial platforms.
  • Develop and enhance reporting tools, dashboards, and process efficiencies.
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports for management and business stakeholders. 

 

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Energy Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field. 
  • 2–5 years of experience in oil and gas marketing, commercial operations, scheduling, trading support, accounting, finance, or a related field. 
  • Experience with pipeline scheduling, nominations, settlements, and commodity pricing methodologies preferred.
  • Familiarity with crude oil and/or NGL marketing.
