Specific Responsibilities

Apache Corporation is seeking a seasoned and strategic External Affairs Advisor to lead and integrate the company’s US onshore government relations, community partnerships, and external engagement activities. This senior-level individual contributor will serve as a critical liaison between Apache and a broad range of external stakeholders—including government officials, regulatory bodies, community organizations, trade associations, and industry partners—ensuring a cohesive and forward-looking external affairs strategy aligned with corporate goals.
This role is ideal for a proven professional with deep experience in policy advocacy, community engagement, and strategic communications who can independently manage high-impact initiatives across local, state, and federal domains.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Government Relations and Policy Advocacy

  • Serve as advocate and representative with local, state, and federal officials, regulatory agencies, and legislative bodies
  • Monitor, analyze, and engage on emerging legislation, regulations, and policy developments that impact APA’s operations.
  • Develop and communicate strategic policy positions in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Represent company on relevant trade associations, task forces, coalitions, and working groups—taking on leadership roles as appropriate.

 

Community Engagement and Strategic Giving

  • Design and implement community relations strategies that build APA’s reputation, foster trust in the communities where we operate, and are complimentary to the government relations and advocacy efforts.
  • Manage key community relationships and oversee partnerships and execution of supporting initiatives and events. 

 

Communications and Public Affairs

  • Support the external narrative and storytelling for APA’s U.S. operations, particularly Texas assets.
  • Serve as a point of contact for local media.
  • Collaborate with internal communications teams on messaging related to external partnerships and advocacy efforts.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields include Law, Political Science, Public Affairs, Communications, Engineering, Business, or Environmental Science.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, community relations, or external affairs within the energy, extractive, utility, or renewables sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust-based relationships with senior government officials, community leaders, and internal executives.
  • Strong communication and storytelling capabilities—both written and verbal.
  • Experience working with or in trade associations and multi-stakeholder groups.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory and legislative environments at the state (especially Texas), federal, and local levels.
  • Comfortable with 30% travel, including overnight and out-of-state engagements.
  • Action-oriented and results-driven; able to independently manage complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Politically astute with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Passionate about community impact and APA’s mission.
  • Collaborative team player with strong influencing skills.
