Specific Responsibilities

The EH&S Regulatory Manager for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s EH&S at the company’s Houston office reporting to the EH&S Director - Global Regulatory.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Directs interaction with regulatory agencies on defined matters. 
  • Provides guidance on interpretation and application of specified regulations. 
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. 
  • Oversees permitting outlines for operating areas. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and regulators in designated support area. 
  • Participate in operations meetings to provide EHS guidance for upcoming operations and ensure no operational impact. 
  • Significant knowledge of industry and government EH&S standards and regulations. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written). 
  • May participate in industry advocacy efforts to progress company position. 
  • Tracks pending changes in the regulatory environment to allow for efficient organizational response to new legislation. 
  • Maintain relationships with the community, regulators, and other stakeholders impacted by the performance of the organization. 
  • Works under limited supervision for non-routine situations and may be responsible for leading daily operations. 
  • Responsible for training, delegating, and reviewing the work of lower-level employees. 
  • Oversees development of policies and programs meant to mitigate organizational impact on the environment or protect employees from health and safety risks found in the organization. 
  • Establishes guidelines governing the collection and maintenance of employee training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation. 
  • Audits facilities or processes to identify weaknesses or risks and proactively develops and implements corrective actions; ensures appropriate investigation of and response to accidents or injuries. 
  • Performs complex tasks. 
  • Has full authority for personnel decisions and may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change. 

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 10+ years of experience in EHS and Regulatory 
  • 3+ years people management experience 
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with various regulatory agencies 
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and influence other departments and discuss issues that may arise 
  • Must be able to apply knowledge and use critical thinking skills to achieve work responsibilities 
  • Must be able to work independently with little direction 
  • Leadership skills. 
  • Ability to foster teamwork. 
  • Oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills. 
  • Technical expertise. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the field's policies, procedures, and practices.
