Overview

The Director of Global Security, based in Houston, TX, and reporting to the SVP of EH&S, Global Supply Chain, Midstream & Marketing, leads the company’s physical security program across a global footprint including the United States, Egypt, United Kingdom, Suriname, and other exploration areas. The role is accountable for safeguarding personnel, facilities, and operations from physical, reputational, and regulatory risks. This position requires a leader who can operate at both the strategic and operational levels - setting direction, building capability, and ensuring consistent execution across diverse regions. The Director serves as a senior advisor to the business on security risk and resilience, translating global threat dynamics into clear, actionable guidance for leadership and operations. The ideal candidate brings experience leading security in complex international environments, paired with strong business judgment, executive communication skills, and the ability to build trusted partnerships across functions and geographies. Backgrounds in federal law enforcement, diplomatic service, military operations, or government agencies preferred. Candidates should additionally have private sector experience and demonstrate business acumen, collaboration, and strong communication skills. The position requires balancing operational rigor with strategic alignment and stakeholder engagement.

Specific Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Maintain a global security strategy aligned with enterprise risk, operational priorities, and corporate objectives.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to executive leadership on security risk, geopolitical developments, and organizational resilience.
  • Integrate security considerations into business planning and capital projects.
  • Establish a proactive, intelligence-driven approach to identifying and mitigating emerging threats.

Policy, Governance, & Compliance

  • Design, implement, and assure global security policies, standards, and frameworks tailored to diverse operational environments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, national, and international laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Oversee third-party vendors and contractors to ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Develop and deliver security awareness and training programs across the organization.

Risk Management 

  • Lead enterprise-wide security risk assessments, including geopolitical, operational, and site-specific risks.
  • Develop and implement mitigation strategies to protect personnel, facilities, and critical assets.
  • Oversee investigations, loss prevention, and asset protection programs.
  • Partner with business units to embed security into project lifecycle planning and execution.

Crisis & Incident Response

  • Lead global crisis management and incident response efforts.
  • Ensure annual training and exercises are conducted. 
  • Maintain crisis management, business continuity, and resilience frameworks.
  • Ensure after-action reviews and continuous improvement of crisis response capabilities.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry peers, and external security partners globally.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with EHS, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and HR.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and external engagements.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and actionable briefings to senior leadership.

Event & Travel Security 

  • Oversee executive protection programs aligned with risk-based assessments.
  • Develop and manage travel risk management programs for global personnel.
  • Ensure secure execution of corporate events and high-profile engagements.

Security Operations & Technology 

  • Oversee global security operations, including physical security systems (CCTV, access control, intrusion detection).
  • Evaluate and implement advanced security technologies and data-driven solutions.

Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing, globally integrated security team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous development.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and vendor relationships with a focus on efficiency and value creation.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

Qualifications & Experience

  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in global security, risk management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success leading security programs across multiple international locations.
  • Background may include military, intelligence, diplomatic service, or private-sector security leadership; however, candidates must demonstrate strong business acumen and corporate leadership experience.
  • Proven experience integrating security into business operations and strategic decision-making.
  • Expertise in crisis management, incident response, and enterprise risk frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory environments relevant to global energy operations.

Preferred Certifications 

  • CPP (Certified Protection Professional – ASIS)
  • PSP (Physical Security Professional)
  • PCI (Professional Certified Investigator)

Technology Proficiency

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Physical security systems
  • Data analytics and reporting tools

Travel Requirements

  • May require frequent domestic and international travel.
