Specific Responsibilities

The Offshore Health and Safety Director, for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s EH&S team at the company’s Houston, office reporting to the VP, Environmental, Health, and Safety. 
 
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • The development, deployment and sustainment of H&S policies, guidelines, procedures and practices in the field. 
  • Lead and inspire offshore H&S teams to continuously improve 
  • Implement H&S programs and procedures to ensure company compliance with local regulations
  • Coordination with Operations and H&S management on all H&S matters, including: safety risk assessments, training, management systems, safe working procedures, and contractor safety 
  • Work with the Operations, Projects, and Drilling and Completions teams and sub-contractors to review EH&S programs and procedures resulting in improved H&S performance 
  • Serve as a strong leader to H&S teams and contractors, as needed, such as drilling rig personnel 
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment 
  • Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis and provide follow up reports, lessons learned and safe operating practice solutions 
  • Facilitate and support operational risk management program 
  • Coordinate and facilitate qualitative and quantitative risk assessments  
  • Implement injury prevention programs focused on premier health and safety performance
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of existing and proposed regulations
  • Coordinate other H&S planning tasks, meeting preparation, data analysis and reports as required by leadership
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by contributing both ideas and expertise in the development of H&S training and role specific competencies
  • Manage offshore EH&S budget expenditures and support development of annual H&S budget

Professional Qualifications & Experience:

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Certified SEMS auditor preferred 
  • Well Control Certification preferred 
  • Incident investigation training/certification 
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple on-going projects and prioritize workload
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of leading high-performance teams 
  • Maintain working knowledge of industry best practices and active participation in industry groups
  • Understanding of upstream oil and gas industry 
  • Ability to leverage technology to understand and analyze data and track trends
  • Experience in field emergency response 
  • In depth knowledge of offshore regulations 
  • Knowledge of safety cases
  • Knowledge of process safety
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Deep understanding of management of change process 
  • Detail and deadline oriented, yet able to adjust to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or Environmental Safety
