Specific Responsibilities
The Geophysicist Advisor - Seismic Processing (SME) for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache's Geophysics function at the company’s headquarters in Houston, reporting to the Director of Geophysics.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
• Member of a team of technical experts providing support to Apache assets on Seismic Processing workflows, directly supervising seismic processing projects.
• Skillsets required to successfully deliver in this role include:
o Deep expertise in Seismic Processing workflows – especially land processing.
o Power user of Seismic Processing software toolkits and workflows.
o Familiar with Quantitative Interpretation (QI) workflows – specifically input products.
o Ability to input borehole measurements, potential field data and existing nearby seismic processing products to deliver consistent optimal seismic (re-)processing.
• Working closely with seismic interpreters to ensure seismic data is appropriately prepared for optimal qualitative or quantitative interpretation dependent on input data quality.
• Reviewing technical work with technical Functional Directors and Asset Leadership Teams.
• Works as an extension of the asset team for weeks/months, understanding business drivers and focus, challenging and cooperating closely with asset seismic interpreters to maximally extract appropriate quantitative information from seismic data.
• Subsurface evaluation team member for data room analyses of new venture opportunities – undertaking assessment of seismic products.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
• Preferably a minimum of 15 years of industry experience, mostly as a seismic processing specialist.
• Master’s or higher degree in Geology or Geophysics – ideally with an advanced Geophysics degree, and with project management qualifications.
• Experience undertaking onshore and offshore, shallow and deepwater 2D, 3D and 4D seismic processing from a variety of basins around the World – seismic contractor experience preferred.
• Excellent project management, organizational, presentation and communication skills.
• Experience running multiple parallel projects, balancing multiple simultaneous asset demands, prioritizing project deliverables to maximize business impact.
• Experience in complementary subsurface disciplines such as seismic acquisition, seismic interpretation and prospect volumetric assessment including, in particular, modern and legacy depth uncertainty workflows.
• Experience working with seismic QI experts on gather conditioning.
• Expert level data integration understanding – highly competent at integrating well data measurements with seismic data.
• Understanding of probabilistic play/prospect risking and how Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators impact prospect assessment.
• Strong network with external seismic processing vendors.
• Highly competent providing QC of large onshore and offshore seismic processing projects.
• Strong ethics and integrity, professionalism, mentorship, leadership, adaptability.
• Ability to code or adapt processing software to refine seismic and well products.
• International Travel Requirement: The position will require occasional international travel to support project needs. Candidates must posses a valid passport and flexibility in travel scheduling will be expected.
