Specific Responsibilities

The EH&S Specialist II - MB for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Onshore EH&S team supporting operations within the Midland Basin reporting to the EH&S Supervisor.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for assisting Apache personnel in implementing and maintaining an effective safety program to provide a safe working environment for all employees;
  • Works with line management to ensure that personnel receive appropriate required training in safety;
  • Participates as required in accident/incident investigations and case management of injuries/incidents;
  • Maintains accurate accident/incident records and prepares reports to management;
  • Travel to the field to learn what best practices are being implemented in areas and communicate these to other areas;
  • Conducts and participates in reviews, inspections and audits of contractor operations to continually improve health and safety performance;
  • Participates in the Incident Management System and responds as needed at any time day or night to events;
  • Supports accident prevention programs;
  • Leads in the development and execution of specific health and safety assurance processes;
  • Analyze organizational risks and take necessary steps to mitigate potential incidents;
  • Monitors and controls the organization’s safety standards in accordance with OSHA and State regulations and Apache policies;
  • Maintains professional knowledge of protective equipment and existing and proposed changes in Federal and State safety regulations;
  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance material and equipment requisition, new and modified process and non-routine work;
  • Coordinate any contractor oversight training required for Apache personnel that work with contractors;
  • Provide regular on-sight field health and safety support (review of JSA’s, work permits, orientations, field audits, inspections, etc.);
  • Lead safety meetings as requested;
  • Provide EH&S orientations for the area as directed; and
  • Perform tasks and support for additional topics as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
  • 5-10 years of oil and gas experience required;
  • EH&S experience preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of industry and government EH&S standards and regulations;
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • The willingness and ability to travel to field locations in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position;
  • Solid problem solving skills and be recognized as results oriented;
  • Effective interpersonal and team communication skills;
  • The ability to be self-directed and self-motivated and the ability to be team player;
  • Strong experience in conducting and leading root cause investigations;
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer;
  • The field travel aspects of the position will require the Incumbent to travel frequently (90%) to field locations and must be able to meet the following physical requirements:
  • Climb stairs and ladders, climb over objects or structures be able to jump a few feet horizontally and be able to walk at speed as great as 4½ miles per hour;
  • Lifting and handling objects of up to 50 lbs;
  • Capable of safely evacuating facilities having no physical condition which might impede escape (or escape by others) from a location; and
  • Have the ability to adapt to adverse environmental condition i.e., extreme cold, or heat, and humidity.
