Specific Responsibilities

The Senior Automation Tech is a technical position under the direction and training of the automation foreman in our Andrews, TX location. The senior automation tech is responsible for system integration, operation, and maintenance of all areas of automation systems and performs other related duties. The senior automation tech uses extensive knowledge of DC Electronics with a basic knowledge of AC electrical systems associated with oil and gas production facilities.

  • Maintenance and installation of RTUs.
    • Critical alarms (Callout)
      • Be available for contact or make certain that an alternate tech is available.
      • Respond and repair immediately.
    • Non-critical alarms
      • Repair after all callout alarms are cleared.
      • Determine if the alarm would be critical if alarm exists for more than 24 hours. If so, repair within 24 hours, otherwise repair within 48 hours, weekends excluded.
    • Oversee contractors to ensure proper wiring and installation.
  • Maintenance of data telemetry systems.
    • Replacement of master radios, when needed.
    • Review telemetry statistics for each RTU using telemetry.
    • Maintain at least a 90% success rate, if possible.
  • System Integration.
    • Build and maintain points on Host system so that data is current with current field wiring and monitoring.
    • Build and maintain screens that reflect current field operations.
  • Programming of PLCs and displays.
    • Advanced programming and generating generic programs.
    • Configuration of addresses and telemetry.
  • Maintenance of automation-related computer hardware.
    • Laptops
    • Battery backups for host machines
    • Build peripheral cables for radios, PLCs, and term servers
  • Automation solutions for production needs.
    • Become aware of how production facilities operate. Recognize areas where alarms and data-gathering are needed on each facility.
    • Present options to production foremen and pumpers to determine if automation instillation is the best solution.
    • Determine the most cost-efficient use of automation equipment and/or systems for production applications.
    • Basic knowledge of oil and gas production operations.
  • Projects requiring AFE generation.
    • Project materials
      • Determine materials needed.
      • Obtain bids following corporate policy, if needed.
      • Determine monetary estimates.
    • Determine and provide estimates on contract and company labor.
  • Review and evaluate automation-related invoices.  Code invoices according to corporate policy.
  • Direct contractor activities to make certain Apache Corporation is receiving the most effective use of materials and labor.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

 

  • 10 years related experience with an emphasis on troubleshooting of automation equipment and extensive experience with oilfield operations.
