Specific Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineering Supervisor leads mechanical maintenance, reliability, and rehabilitation activities across oil and gas facilities and stations. The role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical assets, including turbines, gas turbine compressors (GTCs), gas generators, pumps, valves, and other rotating and static equipment.
The position oversees fuel consumption monitoring, major equipment interventions, facility rehabilitation and recommissioning, and continuous improvement of maintenance and reliability performance. Strong knowledge of API standards, mechanical integrity, reliability practices, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies is required.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead mechanical maintenance teams and ensure activities are executed safely, effectively, and in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
• Monitor and analyze diesel and fuel-gas consumption, identify abnormal usage, and implement efficiency improvements.
• Supervise engine change-outs, overhauls, installation, alignment, commissioning, and handover of turbines, GTCs, and gas-generation equipment.
• Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and optimize resources.
• Review equipment performance, maintenance history, inspections, vibration data, and failure trends to improve reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
• Develop maintenance improvement initiatives, including condition-based maintenance, recurring-failure elimination, critical-spares reviews, KPI monitoring, and maintenance strategy optimization.
• Lead or participate in RCA investigations related to equipment failures, recurring defects, process upsets, leaks, trip events, excessive fuel consumption, and unplanned downtime.
• Apply RCA methodologies including 5 Whys, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, Cause-and-Effect Analysis, Bowtie, and FMEA.
• Ensure RCA investigations identify root causes and establish corrective and preventive actions with clear accountability and follow-up.
• Support rehabilitation, preservation-release, recommissioning, start-up, inspection, repair, testing, and return-to-service activities for facilities and equipment.
• Ensure the integrity and reliability of rotating and static equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, gas generators, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping components, seals, bearings, couplings, and filters.
• Maintain knowledge of valve types, applications, and maintenance requirements.
• Apply flange-management practices, including joint integrity, gasket selection, bolt tightening, inspection, and leak prevention.
• Ensure compliance with API standards, company procedures, HSE requirements, permit-to-work systems, LOTO requirements, quality standards, and industry best practices.
• Coordinate with Operations, Inspection, Reliability, Electrical, Instrumentation, HSE, Supply Chain, and contractors to support maintenance and improvement activities.
• Prepare and review maintenance plans, technical reports, failure investigations, RCA reports, equipment assessments, work scopes, requisitions, and performance reports.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience.
• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance, reliability, operations support, or rehabilitation activities within the oil and gas, energy, petrochemical, or industrial sector.
• Strong technical knowledge of turbines, gas turbine compressors, gas generators, pumps, compressors, valves, pressure-relief devices, piping systems, and both rotating and static equipment – minimum 15 years.
• Working knowledge of relevant API standards, mechanical-integrity requirements, maintenance best practices, and process-safety principles.
• Demonstrated experience in PM and CM planning, maintenance execution, troubleshooting, shutdown support, reliability improvement, and recurring-failure elimination.
• Practical capability in Root Cause Analysis using techniques such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, Fault Tree Analysis, Bowtie analysis, FMEA, and cause-and-effect methods.
• Good awareness of flange management, bolted-joint integrity, gasket selection, torque/tension practices, and leak-prevention controls.
• Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, coaching, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills.
• Ability to analyze equipment data and maintenance history, translate findings into actionable improvements, and verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions. Effective RCA should link the identified cause to assigned corrective actions and a verification plan, rather than stopping at a documented finding.
Competencies
The successful candidate will lead by example through successfully demonstrating the following:
- Core Competencies
- Communication: Writes, speaks, and presents information effectively and persuasively across communication setting;
- Results: Pursues work with energy, drive, and results orientation to positively impact Apache’s business success;
